Manager, Transportation

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The Manager, Transportation reports directly to the Director, Demand Response Operations Control Center and Oversight. This position provides leadership within a team environment to achieve safe, reliable transportation and excellent customer service for CapMetro Access and Pickup riders.   The position works with staff and contractor personnel to ensure the delivery of demand response services.     

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Provide oversight, guidance and plans that contribute to the success of the Demand Response Operations team in partnership with DR’s service contractor(s). 
  • Work jointly with other CapMetro departments as appropriate to ensure transportation logistics, planning, and operations achieve best-in-class results for CapMetro riders. 
  • Respond to customer inquiries and concerns through established customer response process.
  • Develop and monitor operational work plans including operations reports, databases, and other documentation necessary to ensure work plans are being executed effectively.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues to ensure delivery of high-quality service.
  • Responsible for the direct supervisory oversight of all route activities to ensure service is performing. 
  • Handle inquiries from drivers/union officials relative to area of expertise.
  • Collaborate across internal departments and contractor(s) to develop effective service plans for each zone to include zone boundaries, frequency, service span, deadhead routes, break locations, identification of service generators/attractors, etc. (Pickup service specific).
  • Monitor service and evaluate schedules to inform service delivery management.
  • Initiate and conduct scheduled meetings with contractor and operations staff to communicate observed issues, trends, and concerns to ensure goals and identified performance targets are met.
  • Assist in transporting personnel, customers, equipment, or resources during emergency situations to support continuity of operations. 
  • Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action, and reporting safety and security concerns
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES - SUPERVISOR AND/OR LEADERSHIP EXERCISED: Manage department personnel by planning, scheduling, delegating, and overseeing employee work assignments, authorizing, coordinating, and scheduling work with vendors and consultants, conducting personnel actions, including, hiring, and interviewing, and overseeing hiring, training, work assignments, and performance evaluations for Capital Metro personnel.

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • High School or GED. 
  • Nine (9) years progressively responsible operational experience with a public transit agency or similar industry. 
  • Three (3) years of supervisory transit operational experience in a bargaining unit environment preferred.   
  • Must be able to obtain valid Texas Driver’s License, Class B, and/or CDL.
